Sport Compact History: Skunk2 10-Sec. All-Motor Pass - 1999

Here's a look back at 1999 when driver Tony Shagday piloted Skunk2's Project Beta down the 1320. Beta was the first FWD sport compact to make 10-second history—not an easy accomplishment and one that wouldn't be matched for another year year and a half. Check out the video for rare Beta footage from the IDRC finals at Pomona, Calif.

Again, how about some credits where credit is due? Who was the cheif mechanic for Group-A Autosports from 1995-~2000? I don't know if anybody in modern day know who Mr. Wee Doan is/was. But he was the mechanic at Group-A during that time. I don't remember if Wee had any time working together with Omniman overlapping their times at Group-A. I seem to recall Wee was still with Group-A when the Group-A/skunkworks Integra first ran 12's... Does anybody remember the first all motor Honda into the 12's? It was Ramanan Thiagarajah @ 1/97 60's? Sears Point (SPIR), Sonoma, California. Now that's some history. Of course, it was Group-A that was first into the 11's, and first into the 10's. But guess what, what should have MAJOR CREDIT to OMNIMAN.

You are correct, Wee was a mechanic but he didnt build the earliest engines nor did he build the car. 'Omniman' gets credit for being the engine builder when we went 10 Sec and was important to the race program. After Omni, someone still had to build the engines to get to the 9's. We give credit to all team members past and present. Engine building is merely one aspect of racing. It still takes a team to prepare, support, and drive the race cars. Skunk2 is the team.
