Kraftwerks supercharged Hondata RSX took another record at the El Mirage dry lake bed located in the Antelope Valley, CA on June 22nd 2008.
Doug of Hondata set the new record of 178.720 mph (288 kph) over the old record of 173.265 mph in the Blown Gas Competition Coupe Class (G/BGCC) placing the team 13th place overall on the leader board. Using a built 2L K20A low compression engine with Kraftwerks’s K-Race kit featuring the Rotrex supercharger, Doug managed to increase the boost and took off with 540 HP at 9500 rpm. With wheel spin through 3rd gear, the car gained traction going into 4th. More impressive still is the fact that Doug managed the record amidst battling some transmission gremlins which hindered his ability to shift into 6th gear. With GPS data proving the car was hitting 190 mph, the official reading left Doug at 178 mph, a whole 12 mph loss due to the shift malfunction. Though it was still a record, the car has more potential yet. In its current form, it’s calculated that the RSX (all things working perfectly) could have done over 195 mph, making it truly the car to beat.
