The master of cylinder head machining. His resume speaks for itself.
People often ask us to do cylinder head work for them, but that is a service that we don't offer. The next question they ask is which company we would recommend doing their cylinder head work...we tell them Portflow. Let us explain why we choose Portflow and answer this question once and for all.
We have been in the racing and performance game long enough to see all the flaky shops that claim to offer the best cylinder heads in the universe, and unfortunately there are always people that believe them. Don't get us wrong, there are good head porting outfits out there, but more than likely it's probably not who you were thinking of. Many head porters out there need to make wild claims because there is nothing special with their workmanship and also because they know that there is "a sucker born every minute." We've seen some of the work that's floating out there and it is scary. We've also tested all sorts of heads and know that most heads fall short of what they claim. We aren't here to burst anyone's bubble. If you think you've found a good or great head porter, then by all means, keep thinking that. But if you are looking for safe and proven gains or you are tired of getting burned, you may want to heed our recommendation.
So what is it that we like about Portflow? First of all, we like that they don't bullshit people. There is nothing worse than dealing with bullshitters when you are trying to get a critical project done. For the 10 years or longer that we've known Tom (owner of Portflow), we have never heard of people complaining that they were burned by him. If he can or can't do it, or doesn't want to do it, he'll tell you straight up.
We also like how Tom has put countless hours testing heads and parts on his flow bench. He knows what configurations and parts work based off of his flow tests. It would be good if customers learned to listen to his recommendations rather then just tell him what they want (which is usually the case).
One of the reasons we work with Portflow is because of Tom's technical experience. He has been machining heads for a long time. We know for a fact that there are more than a few head porters that rely on him to fix heads that they can't fix themselves or machine heads that they can't machine themselves. When we (Skunk2) work with Tom we are very specific as to how we want things done and he is able execute to our exact demands. When certain specifications are open for discussion, Tom provides a valuable resource and sounding board for which to bounce ideas off of.
So...although we don't usually do endorsements, we are completely comfortable endorsing both Portflow as a business and Tom Fujita as a person. If we have been able to trust Portflow for the last decade, maybe you can consider giving him a try, too. Or at the bare minimum, you can join the Portflow Facebookpage.
