Despite Matt Pritiko’s crash, which led the S2-sponsored Compass 360 Racing #76 Civic Si sideways into the wall and out of commission, the S2/C360R team still took home the win at Lime Rock with Travis Walker crossing the line first. Walker passed by Ian Baas with nearly 10 minutes remaining and held the lead to take last Saturday’s Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge Street Tuner race in Lakeville, Connecticut. Pritiko, who tangled with Nick Leverone in the #8 Flatout Motorsports Mazda MX-5, walked away unharmed and says he’s looking forward to his next race.
The victory marks the first KONI Challenge win for both Walker and John Kuitwaard, who co-drove the Skunk2/C360R #75 Civic Si. Lime Rock was Kuitwaard’s first chance at a start with the team and his second race in the series. "I knew if I kept the pressure on the Volkswagen, he'd eventually make one little mistake, and when he made that mistake, I jumped on him," Walker said about the winning pass.
The Lime Rock win marks the third victory of the season for the Compass360 Racing team. Randy Pobst and Christian Miller, who finished Fourth in the #74 Honda Civic Si, won at Homestead Miami, followed by the Compass360 podium sweep at New Jersey Motorsports Park earlier this year.
