Round One at Buttonwillow Raceway
SPORTCAR MOTION WINS AT REDLINE'S TIME ATTACK
Round 1 of the 2009 Redline Time Attack series kicked off this past weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway, and although the race was plagued by excessive wind storms and the occasional runaway tumbleweed, overall the weekend was a success. With reportedly more participants, more spectators, and more overall support from the industry, its seems that this should be a banner year for the series.

Loi Song and the Sportcar Motion team made the trek from San Marcos, CA to bring out their Skunk2 sponsored Sportcar Motion Civic with hopes to not only clench a win, but also to beat the Modified FWD track record that they set, and reset at last year's Buttonwillow time attack races. While unable to get a fresh set of rubber in time for the race, driver Tim Kuo and the rest of the Sportcar Motion team were still confident in being able to beat the 1:55.948 track record that they set at last years Super Lap Battle event.

In the first round of practice, the white K24 powered Civic CX ran a best time of 1:57.321 while driver Tim Kuo got reacclimated with the car and battled with the heavy cross winds that seemd to plague all the teams. While a few seconds off their regular pace, the team was hoping that the winds would die down and that the tires had enough life left in them to make one final 'Time Attack'.

The team opted to sit out during the second practice session to make some brake adjustments and conserve the tires.

Once it was time to put it all on the line, the wind died down and Tim managed to pull off a 1:55.809 which gave the Sportcar Motion team the win, and also the Modified FWD track record that they were looking for. More impressive than that even is the fact that the team's time was faster than the Unlimited FWD, Modified RWD, and almost the Modified AWD classes!

Skunk2 would like to congratulate the Sportcar Motion team on their win and new track record. With 60 days until the next Redline Time Attack race at Willow Springs International, a complete overhaul of the current setup is planned, and Skunk2 is confident that Loi and the rest of the Sportcar Motion team will continue to blister the track and set records.
